Deborah. C. Moncure, B.A., M.Arch., Chair

Mrs. Deborah Moncure was born in New York and holds a B.A. in Art History from Tufts University and an M.Arch from the University of Pennsylvania. She moved to Washington, D.C. immediately upon finishing her graduate studies, where she met her husband-to-be, Braxton. She and Braxton began coming to Jamaica together in the late 1970s, and were married in Bluefields in 1983. Mrs. Moncure has served as CEO of Bluefields Bay: Jamaican Seaside Villas since the resort’s inception, and has been coordinating local education efforts and sustainable development projects for the past three decades. Mrs. Moncure makes all final decisions on projects and grant requests.

 

A. H. Moncure, B.A., Vice-Chair

A. Houston Moncure was born in Montego Bay and holds a B.A. in Communications from Temple University. He has been working as COO of Bluefields Bay: Jamaican Seaside Villas since his graduation in the summer of 2008. He spends half of his year in Jamaica overseeing the resort’s day-to-day operations, and the other half in the United States dealing with vendors and clients. Mr. Moncure oversees the execution of all of BEPA’s activities in Jamaica.

 

M. Gunst, B.A., Director

Mary Gunst is a poet, writer and philanthropist who has lived in Belmont for twenty-five years. She married her Jamaican husband, Esau, in 1997.

 

M. R. Bernal, B.A., Director

Mrs. Margaret Bernal is a sociologist, writer and cultural heritage specialist who has served as counsel to galleries, non-profit associations, preservation organizations, and Jamaican government bureaus. She is particularly noted for her work in promoting Jamaican culture during her husband’s time as Jamaican Ambassador to Washington, D.C. She has been involved with community efforts in the Bluefields Bay region since the mid-1990s.

 

M. R. B. Moncure, M.A. (Hons), Secretary

M. Rachel Moncure was born in Montego Bay and holds an M.A. (Hons) in Politics from the University of Edinburgh. Since graduating from university in 2010, she has worked at the Jamaican High Commission in London, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna, and at Ross & Moncure in Washington, D.C. Miss Moncure receives and reviews all grant requests and liaises with potential donors.

 

C. Hibbert, Co-Teasurer (JA)

Carmen Hibbert is the General Manager of Bluefields Bay: Jamaican Seaside Villas and the head of all of BEPA’s administration. She and her staff at the resort’s main office in Jamaica manage and keep the books on all of BEPA’s charitable efforts.

 

C. B. Moncure, B.A., FRSA, Co-Treasurer (USA)

C. Braxton Moncure was born in Virginia and attended the University of Virginia and Oxford University. He is the CEO of the accounting firm Ross & Moncure and the CFO of Bluefields Bay: Jamaican Seaside Villas. Mr. Moncure has been supporting his wife’s charitable efforts in the Bluefields Bay Region since their marriage, and keeps track of the organization’s funds as they are raised.

 

Rex Gadsby, B.A., Director

A native of New Zealand, Rex Gadsby moved to Jamaica in the late 1990s to work for Grace Kennedy Food Company. He maintains a residence in Bluefields and works in Savannah-La-Mar. Mr. Gadsby helps BEPA to locate potential donors and screen charitable projects.
